Color Psychology and Perceptions of Industry: Co-designing with Consumers

This project examined color preference from a consumer and design perspective. Through participatory design sessions, consumers’ color preference choices were identified as they co-designed with the researcher-designer the color of industry-specific logos. From the design sessions, libraries of colors categorized by industry were identified. In addition, insights are provided regarding: 1) the extent to which color preferences identified in this project differ from existing industry color research, 2) the use of participatory design in color design, and 3) the degree to which participatory design allows for exploration of consumer color preferences.
